Indoor Air Pollution

Alpine Industries has developed the ANSWER to INDOOR AIR POLLUTION with State Of The Art Air Purifiers.

The average person spends 90% of their time INDOORS. The energy crisis of the 70s forced the construction industry to build with energy conservation is mind. Today our homes, offices, schools and buildings of all types are insulated and sealed tightly. Of course this saves energy, but it also traps pollutants inside. The pollutants listed below are common INDOOR AIR POLLUTANTS. They may or may not be present in your home. Alpine does not claim that all of these pollutants are totally eliminated by the use of its products.

Tightly constructed buildings conserve energy but can't breathe. Very little out side air enters... and little inside air can escape. This means indoor air is recirculated, and INDOOR AIR POLLUTANTS keep building up.

What are some of these INDOOR AIR POLLUTANTS?

CLOTHING: Outdoor pollutants (Pollens, Oils from Smoke, Gases, Allergens and Odors) attach themselves to our clothing. Once indoors, clothing releases these Allergens, Gases and Odors into the air.

FURNISHINGS: That "new smell" from new Carpeting, Drapes, Furniture and Upholstery is actually chemical fumes, noxious gases and Odors.

CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS: Paint, Plywood and Particle Board (from Cabinets, furniture, Paneling) also emit chemical Fumes, Noxious Gases and Odors.

HOME CLEANING PRODUCTS: Furniture Polishes, Ammonia and other Cleaning Products produce Chemical Vapor and Harsh Fumes.

HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS: Since it gathers Dust and Moisture, Ductwork is a natural breeding ground for Mold, Mold Spores, Bacteria (remember the Legionnaries?) And Dust Mites. What's worse, ductwork helps distribute these INDOOR AIR POLLUTANTS through you building.

THE HUMAN BODY: The list above are the most common ones, but the biggest polluters, by volume, are the humans themselves! Each human sloughs off many pounds of skin annually. Eighty of the particles which can be seen in a sunbeam are skin flakes. Did you think house dust consisted mostly of soil? House dust includes tracked-in, blown-ins oil, pet components, carpet fibers and assorted trash. But three ingredients define it and set it apart from other types of dust. These are human skin flakes, dust mites which eat skin and dust mite feces. No wonder we are offended by and often allergic to house dust. Your vacuum cleaner bag is kind of like a body bag containing a small corpse.

Options for fighting INDOOR AIR POLLUTION.

Several studies have shown shortcomings with other air filtration systems.

LOCALIZED AREA UNITS (MEDIA FILTER): The only air that is affected is the air that is filtered - typically in one room. It is difficult for air trapped in Furniture, Upholstery, or other fabric to get filtered.

WHOLE BUILDING UNITS (MEDIA FILTER OR ELECTRONIC AIR CLEANER): The only air that gets passed through is affected. Much of the air in your building remains unaffected and polluted.

MEDIA FIBER FILTERS: Fiber filters trap larger particulates more efficiently than small matter. For proper air flow, some pollutants are permitted to pass through. These filters typically only stop about half the Smoke, Dust, and Bacteria in the air.

ACTIVATED CARBON FILTERS: These filters are designed to trap some Particles and some Gases. Filters are typically expensive to use, need to be replaced often and slow down air flow.

ELECTRONIC AIR CLEANERS: Air passes through a "Charging" section. Electrically-charged plates attract the PARTICULATES. The PARTICULATES have received an electrical charge. Filters must be cleaned or replaced regularly. They get clogged, reduce air flow, lose efficiency and make the blower motor work harder.

HOW NATURE CLEANS HOUSE: The earth recycles her assets in many ways. One system for converting organic waste into fresh resources involves ozone, the same oxygen variant which blocks UV rays in the upper atmosphere. Closer to home, ozone reduces dead organic "stuff" into carbon dioxide, water vapor and oxygen. To a non-chemist this may sound unreal, but it does happen. Nature is remarkable. So we advocate indoor ozonation. Air indoors has less ozone than air outdoors because no lightning bolts, sun rays, waves or waterfalls are there to create it. It makes sense to replace the missing ozone. Without it, the dust floats, gathers in balls, hides in ducts, clings to surfaces and bothers the heck out of some of us. We breathe it into our bodies many times each minute. Yuck!

THE PROCESS OF PURIFICATION:

1. DISINFECTION

2. OXIDATION

3. PARTICULATE CONTROL

1. Ozone is a natural disinfectant which reduces bacteria,, mold, yeast and fungi. Natural outdoor ozone levels of .02 to .05 parts per million keep outdoor air healthy. That outdoor effect can be reproduced with an Alpine unit. Ozone interacts with moisture (as in humidity) and makes small amounts of hydrogen peroxide-also a disinfectant. Thus a double disinfectant benefit is realized in humid situations.

2. Ozone is nature's best oxidizer-other than fire. Epidemics, for example, can be stopped by burning the possessions and corpses of infected people. Smells can be destroyed through by burning. This is oxidation in its most extreme. If you put a dead rat in a bonfire-the filth, fur, flesh, entrails and bones simply go up in smoke. The rat is converted via oxidation into carbon dioxide, water vapor, heat and a little ash. Without the fire a rat decays over a period of weeks. The smell fades in a few days in a natural area (i.e. out of doors). But a deceased mouse might stink for a month because, as an oxidizer, oxygen is less powerful than ozone. Oxidation-whether by fire, oxygen ozone-reduces many organic to their sub-components.

This is why we KNOW Alpine units work. It's not a matter of maybe or sometimes. Our units ALWAYS reduce smells and ALWAYS reduce pollutants.

3. Alpine units also remove particulate-but not through filtration which is the only process most people understand. Listed previously were a few drawbacks to filtration, but here are a few others. At first filters were in ventilation systems only to protect the mechanisms! Later it seemed a good idea to make better filters and take out more airborne crud. But filters have limits. Flow patterns develop and the "non-flow" spaces go untreated. Plus there is a contamination problem. Who wants air that just passed through a breeding nest of bacteria and mold? Remember Philadelphia?

Some filters are "clean and reuse" type. Rarely is maintenance done as often as is needed. Others must be replaced. Again, schedules are rarely kept. And a ten-year supply can cost more than an entire Alpine machine.

If filters worked there would not be an INDOOR POLLUTION problem. Alpine favors installing the best possible filter in every Heating, Ventilating Air Conditioning system. In fact we sell such a product. But we still advocate purification as the solution for INDOOR AIR POLLUTION.

Now to particulate removal. If we do not use filtration, how is it achieved? The ANSWER is ionization. Alpine's exclusive process involves energy pulses emitted from within each purifier unit. Millions of ions, positive and negative, are created and the effect is further reaching than with other ionization technologies. Our system makes ions up to sixty feet away. Even with the unit in the kitchen, ions are created in the bathrooms, in bedrooms, in closets, in the basement, in cabinets behind furniture etc. The waves do not penetrate metal, nor are they harmful to humans, animals, plants or electronic devices. Ions start as stable molecules or particles within an air space. As radio waves zoom away from the antenna at the speed of light, some of the molecules/particles get charged as the power waves passes. These newly-charged ions have a magnetic-like attraction to nearby pollutants. The link-ups happen quickly but more ions are always being made. Molecule/particle clusters grow heavier and heavier until finally they settle to the floor.

Alpine simulates the way Nature cleanses the air. We've all taken a walk after a thunderstorm and experienced the clean, fresh smell in the air. That's ozone at work. And it is this natural process the LIVING AIR SYSTEMS simulate.

1. Lightning creates an abundance of activated oxygen (O3) in the air.

2. The same lightning also creates an abundance of negative ions in the air.

3. Together, activated oxygen and negative ions work together naturally.

LIVING AIR from ALPINE - Here's how it works.

THESE ARE IONS: Positive (+) and Negative(-) Ions. Negative and Positive charges cause PARTICULATES to join together and as they become heavy, they drop from the air.

THIS IS OZONE: O2 (Oxygen is converted to O3 (Ozone). An atom splits off to oxidize a POLLUTANT - leaving behind O2, the air we breathe.

MAJOR ADVANTAGE: No Harsh Chemicals. No heavy Perfume Odors. No Cleaning Product Odors. No risk because you get the chance to try it before you buy it.

WHY DOES LIVING AIR WORK SO WELL? Natural levels of O3 move throughout the environment, penetrating Carpet, Drapes, Furniture and other hard-to-reach areas. Special radio waves generate ions. The ions travel up to 60 feet in all directions from the unit, through the walls and ceilings, too. (The waves will not penetrate metal surfaces.) The ions do not depend upon air flow or circulation.

WITH LIVING AIR, YOU GET FRESH BREATHABLE AIR: Since we can't put a forest or a thunderstorm in our home, Alpine Industries offers you air systems that simulates nature's own air PURIFYING process.

IS ALPINE THE ANSWER? Alpine encourages potential customers to try the product for themselves in their home or office environment to determine the effectiveness of the ALPINE AIR SYSTEM. Rely on your own judgement to determine if the Alpine is right for you or your situation. Alpine is so confident that you will have satisfactory results, we let you try the system for 3 days without obligation. Give us a test and then decide.

For homes the Model XL-15, which covers 2,500 square feet is the recommended size unit. For larger homes the Eagle 2500 will cover 3,500 square feet.
